Science Medicine

In the acclaimed follow-up series to Autopsy: Life and Death, Dr Gunther von Hagens recreates serious injuries on human bodies to reveal what happens to the body when faced with assaults or accidents and to show what first-aiders, paramedics and physicians can do to preserve life against the clock.

He is joined by Dr John Heyworth, A&E Consultant, Southampton University Hospitals Trust, whose illuminating commentary is based on his first-hand, front-line experience of a busy Emergency Department. And for the first time, von Hagens has teamed up with the British Red Cross, whose representative, Emma Rand, demonstrates simple First Aid techniques that could mean the difference between life and death.

The concluding episode of Dr Gunther von Hagens' focuses on injuries that, if not diagnosed and treated promptly, can lead to permanent damage and a dramatic impact on the victim’s quality of life

Joining forces with the British Red Cross, von Hagens examines injuries to the  skeletal system and investigates the causes and consequences of brain damage. Dr John Heyworth, A&E Consultant, Southampton University Hospitals Trust, is on hand to supplement von Hagens’ dissections with medical facts.
